Fresher Students: Nervous, Anxious, Concerned?

Starting university brings a mix of big emotions—excitement, nerves, and plenty of questions.

BBC News (Grace Dean) has recently gathered advice from experienced students addressing  common concerns, such as:

* Feeling nervous about meeting new people?
* Anxious about homesickness or managing your finances?
* Wondering how you’ll juggle it all, or if you’ve chosen the right course?
* Feeling unsure if university is even for you?

The advice can be read in full here  and the article also ends with thoughts to consider if you feel  “I don’t know what to do.”

Another source you might like to consider is to visit the Explore portal on this website’s Help Yourself tab where we offer free assets that can help define your character, preferences and core values. For what purpose?

To increase or confirm how well you know yourself. The more clear you are about  what makes you “tick” as a person – your default ways of thinking, relating, making decisions, and what “floats your boat” – the more confident you’ll feel in your choices. Leaning into your natural strengths creates space to flourish authentically; to feel and to give your best.

Those who take advantage of having a follow-on LifeRoute free mentoring-style “zoom coffee” always say it helps enormously, as it then makes everything practical.

One final thing – Don’t let seeking “SUPPORT” feel like weakness or failure on your part. See it instead as claiming your right to succeed. Universities offer resources because they want you to thrive, but because of the numbers of students involved, taking that initial first step to reach out has to start with you.
